Frank De Graeve

Frank De Graeve (43) is a media relations expert at Quadrant Communications, provides media training and specialises in the use of social media for business communications.

With over 15 years of journalistic experience under his belt, including experience gained at Computer Magazine, De Standaard and IT Reseller, Frank De Graeve is a regular sounding board within the team. With his background it is generally easier to assess which PR actions will go down well with journalists and which won’t. His time at Microsoft Belgium as PR Manager also proved to be good experience.

Like Frank Van den Bossche, he is accredited as a communication trainer for the European Commission. He is also a specialist in the use of social media for business communications. He is always looking for original ways of getting attention for his customers and so experiments a lot with blogs (in Dutch), Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Frank De Graeve has been account director since July 2010. In this role he coordinates the activities of all colleagues who are involved in press communication and social media. In this way, Quadrant Communications is maintaining optimal services for its steadily growing customer base as well as optimising relations with the Belgian press and online community.

Social divide

We are currently working on a communication campaign, commissioned by the Flemish Parliament and IBBT (Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology), where we are using social media to … close the digital divide. Sounds stupid, doesn’t it? Because people who barely keep up with developments in computer technology don’t use interactive Internet applications, do they? Probably not, but these people are not the target group of the campaign. It's not their job to close the digital divide – each one of us has to make the effort. So we are giving social media the chance to live up to their name. Look for more information on the website of E-dinges (“E-thingies”) and also of course on Facebook, LinkedIn, Netlog and Twitter.

Summer job

Companies such as SAP are obliged by their status to come up with something major every now and then. This summer Quadrant Communications received an assignment to put together a booklet with interviews and opinion pieces from management figures from various sections of society: police, IT managers, economists, chairpersons of organisations from the technology sector and so on. The result is remarkable.
